Same-Day Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are often called caps because they literally cap the top portions of afflicted teeth. Made from lifelike porcelain, our crowns not only protect and restore teeth; they also improve their overall appearance. With advanced CEREC technology, Dr. Okoniewski can prepare your tooth, create your restoration, and place the crown all in the same day! Like conventional restorations, same-day crowns are often the optimal solution when;
- A tooth is cracked or fractured
- A tooth is broken
- A tooth with a large filling
- A tooth has recently received root canal treatment
- A tooth is severely blemished
- A tooth is lost (a dental crown can top a dental implant to replace the lost tooth)
What is CEREC?
Traditionally, dental crowns and other restorations are created in trusted dental labs, and may take up to a week or more to complete. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and utilizes CAD/CAM technology (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) to create porcelain restorations in-office. The technology takes extensive digital measurements of your teeth and mouth, then sends the measurements to an on-site milling machine that sculpts your crown according to the specifications. In as little as an hour, you can receive your permanent dental crown without having to wear a temporary one while you wait.
Inlays and Onlays
When a tooth is damaged or afflicted, but not enough to require a complete dental crown, Dr. Okoniewski often recommends an inlay or onlay. Also known as partial crowns, inlays and onlays are also crafted from dental porcelain, but do not cover your entire tooth. Instead, an inlay can be placed between the cusps of a tooth’s chewing surface, or an onlay can be placed to extend over one or more cusps and the side of the tooth. Partial crowns allow us to successfully restore your tooth while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.
