There are some things in life that are glaringly obvious. Then, there’s gingivitis. Sometimes you see that it’s affecting your smile and you know in an instant that it’s time to come in for care. Other times, well, you won’t really notice that something is wrong with your gum health because you won’t see any change whatsoever. How are you supposed to know what to do with this information, when what you primarily rely on is your senses? Not to worry: There are answers.
Now You See It
Don’t assume that your senses are always tricking you. If you do see that changes are taking place, don’t ignore them. Instead, come in for a visit. The types of changes that you can expect should gingivitis make an arrival in your life might include puffy gums, a change in gum tissue color to bright red or purple, gum tissue that bleeds (mostly when you brush and floss), uncomfortable gums (often when you eat or brush), and/or bad breath. When you notice one or more of these, call us!
Now You Don’t
You might not see or feel a single change. That doesn’t mean, however, that you are not someone with gingivitis. Don’t panic. There’s an easy solution here. First, make sure that you’re doing what you’re supposed to do: Brushing, flossing, and scheduling time for checkups and cleanings. The brushing, flossing, and cleanings will help you keep plaque (the gum disease causer) off of your teeth. The checkups will let us stumble across your gum concerns for you. Remember, we see and recognize things that you are not trained to notice. Checkups will keep you from letting a problem go on without care.
