There are some things you may simply assume you’re doing well in terms of keeping your smile as safe as you’d like for it to be! Unfortunately, sometimes you assume you’re on the right path but you take a wrong turn somewhere! Generally speaking, there aren’t a lot of hidden things that are going to keep you from practicing your best dental care and protecting your oral health. However, today, our Auburn Hills, MI team highlights a few (and reminds you that as long as you follow our simple guidelines, you’ll be just fine!).
#1: Cleaning Between Teeth Effectively
You might think that since you’re taking time to thoroughly cleanse your smile and try to poke the bristles of your toothbrush between your teeth that this means you’re effectively protecting your smile! However, what you don’t realize is that your brush is never a substitute for dental floss. Nope, not even if you use mouthwash after you brush. You always have to floss, every day, no matter what. We remind you that flossing is extremely quick and shockingly effective, so it’s worth that extra step as you strive to keep your smile free of oral health problems like tooth decay and more.
#2: Scheduling Care Often Enough
Though we generally suggest patients schedule visits twice a year, we find that patients still tend to come up with their own ideas about the frequency with which they should schedule checkups and cleanings. Remember, your oral health will benefit from a visit every six months in terms of prevention, so if you’re not hitting this mark, it’s time to make a change! Next, just because we only suggest you see us twice a year doesn’t mean you can’t come in for additional checkups if you think you need to! When anything changes or you have questions, always feel free to give us a call!
#3: You’re Adapting To Smile Problems
You might think it’s a good idea to just get used to problems as they show up, sometimes. For instance, maybe your bite suddenly feels different, so you figure you should just get used to it. Maybe your jaw hurts sometimes but you think that worrying about it or seeing us for it would be an overreaction. The truth is, when changes occur, it’s no overreaction to see our team. Instead, it’s to your benefit. Perhaps we will tell you that everything is just fine! However, we may applaud you for seeing us, so we can offer treatment or repairs that will address a concern long before it has time to create serious consequences for your oral health.
